Avenell - Port Douglas
Our first project in Far-North Queensland is Avenell, a new family home commission in Port Douglas. A coastal town renowned for its stunning natural beauty and tropical climate. Nestled between the Coral Sea and the Daintree Rainforest, the area is characterised by its lush landscapes, vibrant marine life, and a relaxed atmosphere.
A stunning example of contemporary design. This Modern Farmhouse takes a commanding position on an expansive rain-forested site, creating a harmonious blend with its natural surroundings. The home is thoughtfully situated in a raised clearing of the site, following a beautiful ridge line that gracefully runs through the property. As is common with most of our projects, a thoughtfully designed courtyard is central to the overall design, and the aim is to create an effortless connection with nature, inviting the breathtaking landscape into the very center of the house for all to enjoy.
The design of the house is significantly influenced by its environmental surroundings. The architecture reflects a deep integration with nature, utilising a robust and durable palette of materials that integrate the home into the landscape. Concrete planters, large windows and an open-plan design allow for an abundance of natural light and breezes to flow through the home, minimising reliance on artificial heating and cooling.
The town’s heritage, with a mix of colonial and contemporary influences, encourages a unique expression in the design. The design blends the contemprrary language of concrete architecture with the timber and tin of the traditional Queenslander. The expansive covered outdoor living areas and the pool facilitate the local lifestyle that favors outdoor living in the warm tropical climate.
