Kelder Architects, based in Brisbane was established in 2011 by brothers Joel & Wesley Kelder.

We are an award-winning architecture practice based in Brisbane, Queensland, established in 2011. Our work spans across Southeast Queensland including the Sunshine Coast and further to Northern New South Wales and Tasmania. MEET THE DIRECTORS

Both registered Architects, Joel & Wes bring together a combined experience of over 30+ years. Joel having a background in the high quality multi-residential space, working on some of Brisbane cities finer developer driven towers, townhouses and commercial retail and hospitality projects. Wes’s background being more in the residential space, he has had many years of experience designing a diverse range of residential projects from high end homes, and extensive renovations to carports and studios for private clients.

Our work spans across Southeast Queensland including the Sunshine Coast and further to Northern New South Wales and Tasmania.

OUR PROCESS

Over almost a decade in practice here in Brisbane, Kelder Architects have developed a specialist approach to working with complex client needs and budgets. We take our clients through an iterative design process that involves the development and evolution of ideas by review, critique and virtual and physical testing. A project is developed by systematic and progressive iterations of drawing, 3D modelling and consultant input that increases in detail and complexity as the design phase moves towards the construction phase. The project is essentially developed and rigorously scrutinized in great detail, before it becomes a reality. Periodic cost reviews ensure the design process is also well informed by the economic realities, to give our clients confidence in the decision they make.

We believe that Architecture is the greatest instrument for people to connect with the natural and built environment in ways that can enhance our lives. Architecture that has room for openness to a green exterior – ‘a courtyard’, is the most potent and meaningful expression of this idea - especially here in subtropical Brisbane. Around a courtyard people can connect with the outside and with each other, the garden is placed at the centre, greenery is the focus, every room has a view, light and fresh air can fill rooms. That is why our approach pursues quietness and refinement in the buildings form rather than outlandish expressions, and we always look for the opportunities the context (the site, the orientation, views, trees, light, breezes) have to inform the Architecture.
